Blessings in the Divine Will dear brothers and sisters in the Fiat!
Having had a busy, almost frantic Lent so far, I found this video by Fr. Dominic O’Connor—Stay in your cell—to be exactly what I needed as we approach Holy Week. Have a pen and paper handy. I think his message will resonate with you in many ways.
For instance, at around the 45 minute mark he talks about our cell as the will of God, and the danger of being tempted out of It by “good things”. He says, “We can get requests to help people, to give advice, to visit—could be anything. The only trouble is that God wishes us to say no at this time [to those good things] because they will distract us from his primary purpose, which is our purification. Only prayer and discernment can lead us to know…which to say yes or no to…”
At around the 55 minute mark he gives a wonderful teaching on Volume 33, March 19, 1935, second paragraph and following. I’ll let you discover this and the rest of the gems on your own.
Fr. Dominic’s teachings also confirmed for me the call to detachment as outlined in our Franciscan Newborns of the Divine Will of Nazareth handbook. I feel very much encouraged after watching it. What I need now is to get back into my cell.
May the remainder of our Lent be fruitful in the little cell of the Fiat!
