This was by far our busiest day. It was a day to fill our baskets with spiritual food, but with so much to see and so little time, we had to postpone digesting the spiritual feast until later.
Our day took flight with Mass celebrated in a chapel beneath St. Peter’s, with Fr. Mario and Fr. Dave.

Afterwards we toured the Vatican Museum and the stunning Sistine Chapel. Then on to St. Peter’s Basilica, home of the “Pieta”, and the tomb of St. Peter beneath the bronze canopy (below).

In Rome, the statues of Saints Peter and Paul (below) are often seen together, St. Peter with the Keys, St. Paul with the book and the sword (representing his beheading).

We were blessed to stop for a few minutes of adoration before lunch, after which we visited the Basilica of St. John Lateran, and the Holy Stairs. We also stopped at Rome’s Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem (located in Rome, but having been sprinkled with earth from Jerusalem). The linked video explains how the true relics of the Passion came to be displayed there.
